GGP relies on dedicated volunteers to assist refugees and immigrants through various programs:
• English as a Subsequent Language (ESL) Classroom: Assist teachers by facilitating group sessions, working one-on-one with students, aiding assessments, and preparing class materials. Opportunities are available both in-person and online.
• Care for Newcomer Children (CNC): Support children aged 20 months to 13 years by encouraging learning and socialization through crafts, games, and reading while their parents attend English classes.
• Homework Help: Assist newcomer students in Grades 3 to 8 with homework and English language practice in a positive learning environment.
• Mentoring: Provide one-on-one support to newcomers, helping them practice English, prepare for exams like IELTS or the Canadian Citizenship exam, and navigate their new community. Mentoring can occur at GGP offices, local libraries, coffee shops, or clients’ homes, with online options available.
• Other Programs: Engage in various programs such as computer classes, skating, swimming lessons, and cultural outings, providing individual skills-building support and group facilitation.
